Youth Group November Meetup: Donuts and Clean-up! November 16, 9:45 AMThe reboot of the St. Andrew's youth group has had two successful gatherings so far this Fall! We're alternating fun meetups with service-oriented ones, so on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 9:45 AM we're joining The Newport News Green Foundation to help clean up the Ravine. Please wear work clothes and bring your own gardening gloves. We'll gather at St. Andrew's parish hall for donuts and prayer at 9:45 AM before walking together over to the Ravine.
Celebrating our patron, St. Andrew November 17The official date in the church calendar for St. Andrew is November 30, but with Bishop Susan's permission, we will be celebrating his festal day a bit early, on Sunday, November 17. At both services we will be using the lectionary readings for St. Andrew's day and reflecting on how St. Andrew can be a guide and inspiration for us. Wear your tartan!
Fire Pit Fellowship November 17, 4 PMWhat better way to enjoy a crisp, autumn afternoon than gathering around a fire pit with friends old and new? Join us on Sunday, Oct. 27 and again on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 4 PM both days, for a fall fire pit outside the River Road entrance to the church. Stop by for a few minutes or hang out for a while, and enjoy some autumn-y treats! Bring a friend!
CNU Flute Studio recital Nov. 23, 3 PMSt. Andrew’s is very happy to host the CNU Flute Studio Fall Recital on Saturday, November 23, at 3 PM. Admission is $5 and all proceeds benefit SoundScapes. Please come and enjoy an afternoon of beautiful music from the students at CNU and help support SoundScapes at the same time!
Intergenerational Advent Wreath Workshop November 24, 12 PMJoin us after church on Sunday, Nov. 24, in the parish hall where each household will make an Advent wreath to take home. This activity will be suitable for all ages, and you are encouraged to participate whether or not there are small children in your home. Having an Advent wreath helps guide home prayer and adds to the joyful anticipation of Advent. We will also have simple snacks (but not a full lunch) provided. All the materials for the wreaths will be provided, but we are asking for cash donations to offset the cost of the candles. We're also asking for greenery donations: if you have evergreens in your yard (fir, cedar, holly, etc) that you can trim and donate, please bring them to church between 8 AM and 4 PM Mon-Thur the week prior to the event. Thank you!
Thanksgiving Service November 27 at 11 AMJoin us on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 11 AM for our annual Thanksgiving service of Holy Eucharist. All are welcome!
Annual Meeting and vestry elections December 1 at 9:15 AM Our Annual Meeting and Vestry Elections will be held on Sunday, December 1, at 9:15 AM in the parish hall. While the vestry holds a congregational meeting every three months, this meeting is most important as it provides not just updates on our many ministries, but also an opportunity to elect new vestry members (Parishioners age 16 and older are eligible to vote.) Our vestry candidates this year are: Lori Branning, Charles Fulcher, Isabel Hatchett, and Helen Mitchell.
Parish Advent Party December 8, 5:30 to 7:30 at the Roby homeJoin us for this lovely annual Advent tradition hosted by parishioners Rachel and Al Roby.
Gift bags for the Downtown Christmas Party December 9 at 10 AMOnce again we are preparing 300 Christmas gift bags for the Downtown Christmas Party for the homeless hosted by St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The bags have been decorated by Debi Nicolai and will be filled with food and toiletries. The generous donation of some items and funding is helping to offset the cost of this project. The St. Andrew's Outreach Fund will cover the remaining cost. However, if you would like to contribute to this project, we would be very grateful! Checks can be made out to St. Andrew’s with “Downtown Christmas” on the memo line. The gift bags will be assembled on Monday, Dec. 9, at 10 AM in the parish hall. If you would like to be a part of the "production line", please come and join us! It's always a fun time!
