Building God's Kingdom through Worship, Outreach, and Fellowship

Our Rector

The Rev. Anne R. Kirchmier graduated from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in 2001 and has served parishes in Virginia ever since. In late 2016 she joyfully accepted a call to St. Andrew's and began her ministry here on February 1, 2017.    Anne has a passion for outreach, pastoral care, and Christian formation for all ages, as well as for collaborative ministry.  She is especially interested in social justice issues.  Since 2021 she has helped to organize and facilitate Pastoring the City, an interfaith, racially diverse group of local clergy working together to serve the people of Newport News.  For six years, Anne served as chair of the Diocesan Program Budget and Review Committee. She currently serves on the Executive Board of the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Past mission trips have included Africa, the Dominican Republic, and New Orleans. In the Diocese of Virginia, Anne served on the Executive Board and as a Regional Dean.

Prior to seminary, Anne taught elementary and middle school for 11 years in rural western Massachusetts. She is married to the Rev. Dr. John W. Herbst, an ordained Baptist minister with a PhD in Bible and a special interest in teaching Christians about Islam.
